COLLECTION CONCEPT

This collection is an exploration of how tattoos change with the body as it ages and grows. The idea that tattoos stay the same way forever is wrong; they fade, distort, and blur with our skin. They are a living piece of artwork. Each look focuses on a different way that tattoos change.

LOOK 1: COVER-UPS
Base silicone layer is tattooed with designs that are commonly laser removed. An additional silicone panel tattooed with a tiger covers up all these designs underneath.
The butterfly is a symbol of metamorphosis, changing from a caterpillar to its final form; just like a piece of skin can when it is covered up with a new design.
The white glasses that go with the look feature build-in magnets to the frame that allow a magnetized cover to be attached to cover up the etched lens detail.

LOOK 2

CONCEPT: WEIGHT CHANGE
Silicone and rib knit dress is hand tattooed to accentuate the distortion of the pattern, like how tattooed images on the body can stretch or shrink with change of weight (pregnancy, muscle growth, weight loss or gain).
The waves of the ocean ebb and flow just like the shape of our bodies, which is why I chose this iconography for the harness.
The wrap glasses are able to fit all sizes, as some eyewear does not fit every head shape.

LOOK 3

CONCEPT: COLOR INK
Custom designed jacquard fabric is paired with tattooed silicone to show how tattoos with just color ink tend to get patchy and fade over time. Cutouts and negative space pair conceptually with this look.
Bones are a symbol of decay, like how the colored ink in the skin decays as well.
The glasses feature intricate cutouts and negative space to pair with this look.

Bio

The combination of tattooing and fashion is something I aim to explore fully through this collection and through my career; they are two different forms of art yet they are similar in many ways. I specialize in eyewear as well and started a successful sunglasses company in 2021, which I am continuing after graduation.
